Justice Kirby calls for human rights charter

Justice Michael Kirby backs calls for a charter of human rights such as those implemented in Britain, the ACT and Victoria.

A recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald (11/10/2007) reported that Justice Michael Kirby backs calls for a charter of human rights which is an increasing necessity as the population becomes more diverse. He said that such a charter ‘is needed not to diminish our parliaments but to make them more responsive to the basic wrongs that today are sometimes ignored or neglected’. (more)
