We cannot continue to take our rights for granted

For a long time we took it for granted that certain elements of being Australian were so sacrosanct that nothing could ever challenge them.
There was a time when we would never have anticipated our governments - our elected representatives, could act in a manner contrary to our fundamental rights and freedoms.
There was a time when we didn’t think we needed a Bill or Charter of Rights to protect those things which we regarded as essential to who we are.
