A fall in cases under the UK Human Rights Act Debunks Floodgates Myth propogated by opponents in Australia.

Stephen Grosz, head of public law and human rights at Bindman & Partners (UK), said that the gradual decline in the numbers of human rights cases since a peak of 714 in 2001-02 undermined the myth that the Act had opened the floodgates to wave after wave of spurious challenges.

In all, the number of reported UK cases making use of human rights arguments was 327 in 2008, down 13.7 per cent from 379 in 2007.

Facts worth bearing in mind when reading any future commentary from opponents such as Carr, Albrechtson, Hatszistergos, etc.
